Sessions last approximately one hour. The first session includes a detailed consultation to build up a picture of your health, both past and present. Questions address not just your medical history but also things like taste preferences, sleep patterns, emotional health, whether you take any exercise, and whether you generally feel hot or cold. Shiatsu is a holistic therapy and as such emcompasses all aspects of our being - all is seen as interconnected.
Each session is tailored to the client's individual needs, at that point in time, and aims to address underlying causes rather than merely treating the symptoms. Long term solutions are preferable to short term quick fixes.
Sessions usually take place on a futon at floor level. Receivers remain fully clothed and will be covered by a light blanket. You will be asked to ly on your back to start with, and then later in the session you will be invited to turn onto your front or onto your side. Cushions are available to support you in any position. Your comfort is important! Seated treatments can also be given if getting to floor level is difficult.
Sometimes recommendations are offered regarding lifestyle, diet or exercise. This is to support you in your self-healing. We encourage an active participation in your own well-being!
"By returning over and over again to the essential nature of the breath we can relinquish the fixity of the past and the imagined inevitability of the future, turning back toward the opportunity that awaits us in the next breath"
